Doina Petrescu

External examiner
Doina Petrescu (Romania) trained as an architect. She has studied philosophy at the École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales in Paris with Jacques Derrida, and has completed a PhD in Women´s Studies at the University of Paris VIII. She has been working in the University of Sheffield School of Architecture since 2001, having previously taught at the UAIM Bucharest, Iowa State University, EA Grenoble, ENSBA Lyon, EA Paris-Malaquais.

Doina was editor of "Altering practices: Feminist politics and poetics of space" (2006) and "Architecture and participation". She is co-founder of atelier d'architecture autogérée (aaa), an interdisciplinary network that develops strategies and tactics for research and intervention into the city.

Doina considers herself as a 'nomadic subject' in academia, trying to use her multicultural background and experience to multiply the relationships between places, persons and fields. She is an academic who is aware of knowledge politics, an engaged practitioner and an active citizen who dreams about other possible worlds.
