UNIT 2 EXPLORATION

ASSIGNMENT
Develop a concept of a daily route by bike.
As starting point use your ideal vision of a daily route.
Translate your ideal vision to a concept for a route in the city of Utrecht.
The route is starting at Ledig Erf, the south entrance of the old city, and going to the university campus the Uithof.

IDEAL VISION OF A DAILY ROUTE
My ideal route has a different story every day.
It gives me the opportunity to explore, it is an inspiration for a new day.

SHORT ANALYSES OF THE ROUTE
There are more routes to the Uithof, all passing by the train station. The route of Ledig Erf to the Uithof is the same as the bus route. It is the fastest but most boring route.
In the south it is the border to a green area. Two times, the route is connected with there old river Kromme Rijn.
Along the route the are many different functions. Family homes, schools, student houses, a park, a hospital, a football stadium, a casern, a swimming pool etc.
There are large differences in the scale of the buildings along the route. The buildings and functions are presented as objects. The route is like a fragmented graphic image.

CONNECTING IDEAL VISION AND THE ROUTE
This route is telling a story about different people and their daily pursuits. About the history of Utrecht, about today and the future. This isn't a boring route, the route should tell the story about itself.

CONCEPT OF THE ROUTE

ZAP
the route is playing a game
and it tickles your imagination
it's happy to see you
and it takes you to your home or work
with the possibility to move as free as you like
it's raising to it's own position
where you have a good view
it ZAPS along the objects
so you can experience the changes of the environment
it's the machine
that creates an interesting movement

THE ROUTE
The cycle path as a tracking thread of the route.
The environment is reflected, clustered and brought together in the cycle path and the cycle path also influences the environment. The result is a manipulated cycle path.
The biker will get more space approaching the Uithof. The Uithof will be on big cycle path. On the route the biker is separated from the fast traffic. The biker can always choose his pathway.
The buildings, trees and other object along the route are asymmetric to experience the Zapping of the environment. They will appear in different volumes and frequencies.
